Being a social media savvy ourselves, our Digital Influence unit, we are at times, snobs. We were so caught up with what’s happening around the globe, the region and yet often ignore or not paying as much attention as what we should on the local market. Apart from the big news such as ZingMe latest directional change, NhomMua Group investment, we tend not to turn our radar on other smaller, but perhaps emerging and interesting platforms.
Which is why we decided, well two of us for now, me and our newest intern from RMIT Professional Communication Studies program, to launch an ‘assault’ on these local clones of international social media platforms as well as other SNS in Vietnam to try and understand what’s going on. Over the course of the next few weeks we will be heavily testing and experimenting the Vietnamese social sites.
And of course we will also be sharing our thoughts and experience on TAOBUG. Here are the list of our close targets:
1. Microblogs clones: Mimo.vn, LinkHay.com, and second attempt at Two.vn (with not much hope)

2. SNS: go.vn (the most talked about SNS, government by designed and structure), banbe.vn, truongxua.vn
Are you social media snob? What are other interesting local platform you’re using or you’re just an other snob like us?

Hi Thua Ha, I am interested in why you consider LinkHay a microblogging website, when I think it’s more of a social bookmarking website. Like a Digg.
Hi Michael, actually they’re both bookmarking as well as microblogs. Sometimes it gets us a bit confusing since they also have twitter feeds and content in the microblog manner. Have you tried them? What do you think?
I have tried both actually. I think the way LinkHay is laid out and the content highlighted, it’s definitely a social bookmarking site, a place to share and discuss links. Technically, you could submit a linkless post, but that would be like writing short, 100 character posts on a WordPress blog.
Definitely could do it, but not the real purpose of the WordPress service.
